The Youth of Henderson Grove have a big HEART for local missions. Every week we hear our church
clerk read the names of Sick and Shut-Ins and those desiring prayer, and we often wonder who are these people, and how can
we do more to help them.
During this quarter, the Henderson Grove Youth Missionary Circle set a goal to pray for and
to make personal visits to each of the people named on their weekly bulletins. The Youth were assigned Care
partners from the list, and they prepared encouragement cards, floral baskets, snack buckets and other items which
they carried with them as they made visits to the homes of each of these individuals.
Visitations began on the 5th Sunday in October and continued through the 4th Sunday in December
. The youth traveled each Sunday in groups of 4 or more and provided a missionary program at each of the stops made.
They sang songs, read scriptures, prayed, and shared highlights from weekly Sunday School lessons, with those whom they visited.
They also took inventory of special needs of each of their care partners, and made return visits as needed to deliver items
requested.
Visits were made in the following homes and elder care facilities,

Although not pictured, missionary visits were also made at the home of Mr. Darren Barber in East
Durham, and in the rooms of Mr. Joe McGill, Ms. Flora Luckett, and Mr. Rufus Ferrell, all residents of the Carver Living
Center in North Durham.

Nursery and K-P’s Serve
On the Mission Field Too!

On Sunday, Dec 5th, Mrs. Nellie Bullock’s Nursery and Kindergarten-Primary students shared
in a great missionary adventure of their own. The children prepared fruit baskets and encouragement cards, which they
delivered to the residents of Carver Living Center. The children read scriptures, prayed for the residents, and sang songs
to encourage them. The group was given a real treat when Deacon Rufus Ferrell (age 95) repeated, from memory, every
verse of the 23rd Psalm.
The children were very respectful of the Rest Home facilities as they quietly marched from room to
room spreading holiday cheer. The residents and staff really appreciated the children’s visit, and they are looking
forward to having them return in 2005.

I’ll Go, if I have to go
by myself!
“I was glad when they
said unto me...
Let us go into the House of
the Lord.”
Psalm 122:1
Around 7:30 am each Sunday morning the phone rings and the voice of 12 year old Senilia (Ne Ne)
Allen can be heard across the line. “What time do I need to be ready today? What time will you come by for me?”
“How many services do we have today?”
You see even at her young age, Senilia has discovered the importance of assembling weekly with the
saints. Whether rain or shine, hot or cold, Senilia makes no excuses, and is certain to be found early each Sunday
morning making preparations to attend Sunday services at Henderson Grove
Having been the first in her family to receive Christ at the age of 8, she joined Henderson Grove and was
baptized in the year 2000. In the years that have followed, Senilia has remained faithful to her church and church family.
She is a member of the Youth Choir, Youth Missionary Circle, the Youth Dance Team, the Youth Usher Board, and also a member
of the Henderson Grove Fellowship Choir, where she holds her own with the adult altos in her section. She faithfully attends
Bible Study, VBS and Sunday School, and she maintains a “B” average in all of her studies at Lowe’s
Grove Middle school.
In this day when young people have so many choices and so many opportunities for distractions, its
refreshing to see a young lady who’s already determined to make Christian fellowship a priority. “Nothing should
stop you from coming to church if you can”, she confesses. “Even when I get old…I’m going to
always try to go to church somewhere…God’s been too good to me for me to stay at home on him. “
We thank and praise God for the wisdom of this young woman of faith, and we pray that the
Lord will continue to honor her faithfulness as she matures into the great prayer warrior and virtuous woman he’s preparing
her someday to become.
Keep the faith Ne Ne….God is not through with you yet.

Birthday Party for Jesus
Enjoyed by All!

On Saturday, Dec 18th, the Youth Missionary Circle hosted a Birthday Party for Jesus!
The Youth were assigned Christmas Buddies, from among the infants, toddlers, pre-schoolers and elementary age children in
our congregation. The group played Christmas games, read stories together, and shared in a luncheon.
The Youth Mission presented gifts to their respective Christmas buddies in the spirit of the Magi who visited
Jesus when he was a small child. Youth of all ages enjoyed this great celebration honoring the birth of Jesus Christ. The
celebration helped the children realize that Christmas truly is about CHRIST!
After the party, the children all journeyed to Ellison’s Rest Home, where they shared
Christmas songs and gifts with the residents there too.

Youth Mission wins First Place
Attendance Award
The Youth Missionary Circle attended the 2004 Youth Christmas Social hosted by the Youth Department
of the Durham County Missionary Union. The social was held on Dec. 12th at the Greater St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church
on Juniper St. The group prepared homemade cookies for the social, and participated in a gift swap with children from
several other churches in our Union. They received the first place attendance trophy for being the largest Youth Circle in
attendance on that day.

Ellison’s Rest Home
Oh Autumn, I love your colors – red and gold
Fancy shadows I am told
Harvest time is finally here
We must gather grain, I fear
There is no time to tarry now
Oh Autumn, fowl and children gather around
Without fear of thunder sound
I’ll lay my branches on the ground
Harvest time where friends are found
There’s no time to tarry now
Oh Autumn, I’ll have thanks with you, my dear
Congregations give us cheer
There’s no time for hate or fear
Harvest time when love is here
There’s no time to tarry now
Oh, Autumn, summer time is far away
I’ll save the grass for a later day
I still believe what old folks say
Clouds will show us the burning ray
There’s no time to tarry now
